Rare, so don't pay over the odds.
I got this second-hand of course, so didn't pay over the odds for it, hence it was good value. It runs smoothly, and goes nicely with the Intercity 125 set in the same livery, although with a couple of second class and a first class car, the unit is much too long for a non-dedicated layout..
Recommended if you have enough space to run the set, but they are quite rare, so you will have to shop around on the auction sites and hope too many other folks aren't after the same item.

Looks lovely and is reasonably well made.
1 of 1 found this helpful Not sure if the wood has been pressure treated, so it may not last long in the elements. I gave mine a full treatment with preservative just to make sure. A bit disappointed with the planter inserts They are black plastic and have holes in the bottom to let out excess water. This will go straight into the wooden bases and accelerate any rot. I suggest replacing these with a removable pot in the base, and leave the bucket empty as the fixed handle stops easy removal.
When I built mine, two of the screws that hold the roof to the crosspiece split the wood. This would ideally need pilot holes drilling before you assemble it. I had to drill from the side and put a small bolt through to force it back together.
Having fixed all that, it is sturdy and looks lovely and very reasonably priced. With a bit of extra work, it should last quite a few years outside, and of course, indefinitely if it were kept in a conservatory etc.

Replacing those old Triang/Hornby brushes
If you have any of the older OO Triang/Hornby models, odds are that these are the brushes you need, to get the machine running as it used to. The old 3 pole motors are never going to be as smooth as their modern 5 pole counterparts, but a bit of TLC will work wonders, and simply cleaning the commutator and replacing the brushes is a great start.
These are new units, well made and everything you would expect. Recommended.
