Interesting reading, Genereous with description. Generous, but not tiring. Fine, balanced writing.
This is an original Nancy Drew episode, the 3rd one in the series. By the 3rd one the author has established the qualities that made the Drew series endearing to us: Great Description, Varied and Interesting Settings, Thrills and Narrow Escapes, Timely Resolutions. For children's literature, I doubt that anything could surpass these stories. They are even fun for adults.

Review: The Quest of the Missing Map
One of the lesser stories in the series. Though there is a lot of movement to the plot the incidents causing it seem artificial. The child character running away/getting lost frequently, the predictable trip to NYC, the stressed widow, all are present and all are overly-used used plot devices in the ND series. Added to these, is how confusion arises over how many copies of the map there are and how many people have copies. The bouncy trite feel of events happening along the story-line make the actual finding of the treasure seem somewhat bland and anticlimactic.

Lightweight with great features.
This story was a slight departure from the usual format in that t here was no auto breakdown or crash and no brutal rain storm to get caught in. The information about the lake itself was picturesque and informative. But it seemed to lack depth, atmosphere, noir that one expects in Nancy Drew novels. Kind of flat.
