OK for older versions, but get one with an SSD if you want to use the latest MacOS

The Mac mini is still a solid performer, but the HDD Mac mini is really only usable with older versions of MacOS that use the HFS+ file system. The newer versions (from 10.13 on) use an APFS file system that is optimized for SSD drives and runs quite slowly on HDDs. If you want to run the latest version of the OS, get a machine with an SSD not an HDD.
