Not Kent's most compelling, visionary work (like his woodcuts and illustrations for Moby Dick). But fine nevertheless. And Shakespeare is Shakespeare.

Great place to start. Everyone agrees.

The author recently passed away (2023) and is a legend in the astronomy community. The book is excellent for beginners because star charts are constellation-based and include hundreds of great objects a beginner can see with even binoculars or a small telescope and doesn't include the thousands of others that make the atlases intimidating and confusing to start. Made my first year of viewing easy and exciting and inspired me to continue on to bigger and better things. Mostly bigger!

excellent desktop tripod, sturdy and solid.

This tripod appears to have excellent construction. Sturdy, tight joints, intelligent design. I tested it with my 3 lb. electronic telescope and it's extremely stable - but of course it's rated for much more. Also, it looks great.
