Best KLR Mod possible
—Install tips at bottom of review—
Ive looked at ever options for upgrading the front suspension on the 08-14 klrs and this is hands down the easiest, most affordable and most effective. I’ve been a motorcycle mechanic for 15 years, but just about anyone could swap these springs in under an hour.
-The spacer should be cut to 3.25” for mid preload. You can add 0.25” for heavy preload or subtract 0.25” for lighter.
-You’ll need a hook of some kind to pull the springs out of the fork tubes. I use a piece of bailing wire with a bend at one end.
-This is a good opportunity to change the fork oil, but it’s not usually necessary. If you go slow and let the oil drip off the springs before pulling them out of the fork tube you won’t even have to add fork oil.
-I recommend pairing this mod with a eagle brand fork stiffener brace. There a little pricey and you won’t really notice the difference when it’s installed. But you will definitely notice it’s absence when you lay the bike down and tweak the forks out if alignment. It happens way too much :/ ask me how I know.
To conclude, great upgrade, buy now, be happy.

This is a Fantastic upgrade over stock. Really gives a new life to 08-14 klrs.
Actually feels a little more firm then the 14-17 stock spring, but still very comfortable on road. I ride with anywhere from 150#-250# on the bike (including rider) and it seems just about perfect.
Install is not for the faint of heart. Requires compressing the spring significantly and can be very dangerous if you don’t know what your doing. There are lots of you tube tutorials but still, you may just want to take this one to the mechanic. If you bring in just the strut and springs it should cost significantly less then $100 to swap um
Have fun and stay dirty
