Machinehood by S.B. Divya (English) Hardcover Book Free Shipping!
09 October 2021
Science Fiction with Anti-Science elements.
After catching up with the Donovan Series, I was eager to dive into a fresh new world. Reading the synopsis of Machinehood made this an easy decision for me. The first chapter was quite pleasing. I found the world that we being laid out, while in the future, seems not too farfetched. It is when the author starts introducing secondary and tertiary characters around chapters 2 and 3 that things become problematic. One character specifically is described as "non-binary." The author then uses a pleural pronoun when referencing this character in the next few sentences to follow. When you use the word "they" when pertaining to a single character, all this will do is create confusion for the reader, even more so when it is done in the beginning of the story, when the reader is trying to take in new characters, settings, and plot. A move like that may make the Netflix Hivemind happy if you are trying to pitch this as a series, but all it did for me was nudge me into returning the book for a refund. No grammar obstacle course for me, thanks.
