A well crafted story
A wonderful romp through the damp, cold English countryside. Loyalty, duplicity, revenge and plenty of musketry make this a joy to read.
The book is part of a series but can be read on its own.

Immersive reading, with a few surprises along the way
This is a really good series of books [Marston Moor being number 6]; the storyline keeps you needing to read just one more paragraph / page / chapter.
Set during the First English Civil War 1642–1646 in northern England, with the final showdown set near York on Marston Moor (hence the title of the book!), it chronicles both Parliamentarian and Royalist armies as they try to outwit and out manoeuvrer each other as the Roundheads fight for parliament and God and the Cavaliers fight for King and (???) God - Catholic verses Puritans.
The protagonist of the books is Stryker, he's honourable and will not turn away from what is right and in doing so manages to upset just about everyone on both sides. He fights for the King.
Follow both sides as they march on to war.
