A unique lego castle
This product is unique. The Fire Breathing Fortress is the Dragon Master's "big castle" set. But its very different from earlier and later Lego castles. This set visually appealing from the front and side with the ramp. Less so from the back and other side. Those sides are given a very basic treatment, and the form language is a bit confusing. Inside the set contains a prison cell and pit for the dragon. One of the wall's near the main door falls over for counter-attack. The large dragons head can drop bricks over the entrance way. Its a nice shape, and that feature is fun when it works. As well there is a trap door from the upper level into the dragon pit which works well, just leaves a gap in the upper level. The big thing with this set is it has a surprisingly low brick count (394). For comparison King's Mountain Fortress had 429 bricks and Black knights castle has 569. Both are similar vintage on the same base plate. King's mountain had more bricks, and only built up half the area! The set gets away with the low brick count by largely being a hollow shell, as well as being minimalist with bricks in ways some enthusiasts may find irritating. That is why I rate this set below excellent. Its a good set. And if you like the Dragon Knights, and similar vintage Lego, its a must have. If your simply looking for something from that period, Dark Dragons Den is designed better and is better value.

Surprising good value for a small set.
This is a smaller set, from the the Dragon Knights faction in Lego Castles. Its quite efficient with bricks, and I think it is the only set to include the blue shutters on the window. Set is on hinges and opens up to reveal an interior. Its not as elaborate a some of Lego's more recent interiors but was quite good at the time. Comes with Majisto and one Dragon Knight. Overall, an inexpensive but well worth it set.
