Whisperlite workhorse
I have used the same MSR Whisperlite for over 27 years, from basic over-nighters to back-to-back 10 dayers, with minimal maintenance (bad! not recommended). The only two times it has let me down was attributed to oil contaminated fuel, and not checking & cleaning the stove before going on another trip, and failing to take the jet cleaner. The new shaker jet fixes that. The pre-priming ritual is not for everyone, can be untidy but the unit delivers the required BTUs for hot meals. There are other lighter weight stoves around but I am not interested in chasing the absolute-minimal micrograms gained. The fuel is CHEAP, and the stove cheap to run. It doesn't burn fuel too quickly, and the small fuel bottle 300ml(?) lasts me 3 days in our relatively mild winter ( 8 cooking meals/ hot drinks ), five days in summer.
Would I buy another should this one 'disappear' from my kit? Absolutely, In a heartbeat, faster if MSR reproduce it in Titanium. How about it MSR?
