Worked just fine in my energy depleted greeting card showing a Nun saying "While you've been out doing God knows what, I'll be praying for your soul" among other choice comments.

Skillful performance by a major player using a fabulous lute

Emma Kirkby's voice is always of surpassing beauty.
The seldom heard Robert Jones songs are adventurous and some are almost unique as well as unusually appealing. They even include an impassioned Italian monody piece. The Dowland pieces are also well done though some are almost becoming like old war horses, so often are they recorded (I bet this comment could cause Mr. Dowland some sadness).
Though outdated recording methods (1991 vintage) are probably the cause of making excellent player A. Rooley's lute sound tinny and toy-like in the background (maybe he used nylon strings), any deficiencies on this disc are more than compensated by Emma Kirkby's mastery of baroque singing methods. She is even able to include some late-note vibrato without blurring the melodic lines. I recently heard one recording in which the lady singer totally destroyed baroque melody with excessive vibrato. This CD is a bargain with two full discs of performances by exceptional artists. The jacket notes are very sparse.
