Spell Smashers - Board Game

Engaging word building game for kids as well as adults.
Although the theme of attacking monsters with words seems strange, it works well here, encouraging you to build long words to use the benefits of weapons and armour that you have. Monster strength is indicated by money on the creature, additional money is added by adjectives such as 'ugly' will boost the strength of a minotaur. Attacking allows you to take the money, if you take the last coin, you get the monster to use as a letter in future plays, such as 'm' (minotaur). Money earned can be spent to get better armour/weapons or potions to change a letter etc. Can also play solo, great for playing side by side with kids to stop waves of monsters destorying the village. Highly recommend.
Chain Reaction: Manhattan Project Card Game

Portable, resource conversion card game that is engaging and plays ok solo.
As my 9yo son is interested in chemistry, especially radioactive chemicals at the moment, thought this might make for an interesting, portable game for him to play by himself at least. So far only played solo, with me teaching him (and later his younger brother) and he found it engaging, trying to solve the input/output resource puzzle of getting yellow cake to turn into uranium, to eventually build enough bombs to get a high score. Obviously the theme is dark, sadly a sad (but interesting) part of history, I suspect the game will be more interesting/exciting when played with 2 or more players as they race to build 10 points of bombs.
