Great take on Egypt's pyramids, pharoahs, and hidden treasures!
This is one of my wife's all-time favorite movies, and we owned it in VHS but were delighted to learn it had been issued in DVD format! We bought it and are happy to now be able to enjoy it in crisper detail. The movie captures the mystery and allure of the Egyptian pyramids and their hidden treasures, woven through a story of greed and deceit clashing with strong Egyptian nationalism and academic purity. The "foreword" section of the movie conjectures how the pyramid's architect devised an ingenious way of foiling tomb robbers and heightens the tension between good and evil throughout the movie, and Frank Langella is awesome as the idealistic Egyptian native who strives to keep the hidden treasures safely in Egypt forever. A great story, an ingenious framing technique, breathtakingly beautiful photography, on-site, up-close views of great treasures of antiquity, high idealism, and good acting make this a very interesting and fascinating movie!

A great movie that finally became available in DVD!
2 of 2 found this helpful My wife and I saw this movie years ago, in the VHS era, and it etched itself indelibly on our minds. Unable to find it on VHS years ago, we were elated to be able to buy it in DVD format. We watched it immediately upon receipt and were yet again brought to tears by its inspirational climax. A simple but great movie about the horrors of having a child abducted, it is a masterfully drawn portrait of the fear, rage, impatience, and iron will and undying hope of a heartbroken mother, and the doggedness of a dedicated detective who has not yet been hardened by the endless horror he has seen in his life. Great acting, compelling story line, and a story of hope that will warm your heart forever!
