An excellent workhouse microphone
If you are looking for a one size fits all large diaphragm condensor mic then you will not go far wrong with the AKG C214. It is great on vocals, great on instruments, brilliant as drum overheads and you name it, it can handle it. It is not one of those classic mics that lends some form of magic mojo to the sound, it simply reproduces well across the board. I have a piar and they are an indespensible part of my mic locker!

Perfect Tom Mic
I love these Mics for Toms period! These are also my go to Mics for a variety of percussion instruments. The clips are extremely useful and easy to fix to a wide variety of drum sets.
The overall sound is very similar to an SM57 but with slightly more roundness in the lower mid range and a slight presence lift around the upper mid range. To my ears this is very flattering to Toms and could work with a snare too, but prefer other mics for that purpose personally.
Construction wise it is very solidly built from high impact plastic and feels very rugged and reliable. Indeed my E604's have suffered many an impact from inaccurate drummers with no noticeable ill effects or dents. They are very light and compact making it very easy to position them in confined spaces.
To me these are the perfect solution for my needs.
