Noro Knitting Magazines - Choose from Latest Edition & Back Issues
    14 July 2017
Noro Magazine Offers Great Patterns for All Knitters
Although I paid a premium for a back issue, I am so glad I did. I prefer knitting shawls and wraps, and that was the featured craft. I will seek out new Noro publications because of this purchase. The patterns are relatively simple, although I have been knitting for several years and learned as a teenager. The fibers produced by Noro are magnificent, although they are too pricey for my use, but I am doing fine with an alternate yarn purchased from Knit Picks.

End of an Era DVD Boxed Set is Fabulous
Since I was unable to convince Netflix to carry this DVD, I finally broke down and bought it. The concert film from the Once tour also came with 2 cds of the music, which was a happy bonus. The movie itself is gorgeous, documenting the excitement, energy and showmanship of the band, the emotions of the audience, along with excellent sound, pyrotechnics and several costume changes for Tarja. I discovered Nightwish in 2005, after Tarja's departure, but now having seen her perform, I can understand the fans' distress at her leaving. This DVD is a fitting tribute to her contribution to Nightwish. There is also a short film of behind the scenes with the band which, I've only viewed once. They speak mostly in Finnish, but it was amusing nevertheless. If you are a fan of the band, then or now, you'll be glad you bought End of a Era.

Blood Standard by Laird Barron ARC, paperback
    18 March 2018
    Birth of a New Anti-Hero
Laird Barron's writing is my new latest obsession. Needless to say, I was highly entertained by his protagonist, Isaiah Coleridge, although I could not shake the vision of Jason Momoa, which was a pleasant thought. When I told Laird (on Facebook) that Momoa could not be "unseen" while I read Blood Standard, he "hearted" my post, and admitted that he also saw the charming and sometimes alarming actor as the former hit man. As far as the story, I will leave that to future readers to unravel. I am happy to hear that the second book in the adventures of Isaiah Coleridge is in the works. I look forward to further glimpses into the dangerous and complex world of an assassin turned fixer.
