Alan Partridge, The Best Comedy to Come Along in Years!
Alan Partridge should be in many more movies in the U.S. He come from the U.K. and they've had his comedy for decades, and we missed it all. He is a WONDERFUL comedian. His timing is so good. He has the best facial expressions to help tell the story and what kind of character he is playing. The rest of the characters were great to watch as well, but it's Steve Coogan's movie - the actor who plays Alan Partridge. This is the BEST comedy I expect to see in 2014. EVERY scene is funny. There are no slow moments. There is something for everyone in this movie, and it reaches out to the American audience in small ways as well. It is a completely original movie/script and I can't think of any movie that comes close to this story. Buy and watch this movie. I wouldn't know why anyone wouldn't enjoy it. It is a perfect comedy and would appeal to a younger and older audience as well and that's uncommon in the U.S. I would see any movie that Steve Coogan stars in and I hope he can keep up his "momentum". (Spoiler alert: whenever someone gives me a fist bump, from now on I'm going to cover his fist and say "paper".) Just a very short synopsis: It's about a radio station in Britain that gets bought by a company, and disk jockeys may get fired. One disk jockey asks Alan to help him save his job, but in an effort to save his own, he gets the other jockey fired who in retaliation comes back and holds the radio station personnel as hostages demanding his job back. Alan is called in to talk with the fired disk jockey and try to end the siege peacefully and while that is all crazy the craziness continues to ensue.

Unusual movie fare. I think Illean Douglas steals the movie.
I remembered seeing this movie the first time and thinking that it was an unusual movie, and not the usual movie fare offered to people and it was pretty interesting. It was the first time I'd seen Scarlett Johansson. She had a lead. I didn't think she was anything special. Boy, was I wrong. Her friend is played by Thora Birch who I haven't seen in anything else (I think) and Illean Douglas has a small part that I wish had been much bigger. She was great, and it also had Steve Buscemi in it in a major role. He was wonderful too. It's an oddball movie in the way "Napoleon Dynamite" or "American Splendor" were. I enjoyed watching it. I liked "Napolean Dynamite" and "American Splendor" too but not everybody did. As for the DVD, it played fine. I don't remember the buying details, but I think I had to buy it new. There may not have been any used copies available.

Moody, one of a kind and a lot of fun to watch.
I'm 54 and saw for the first time "Sunset Boulevard." I really enjoyed it the first and I've watched it maybe once a week since then for about four or five times. It's in black and white and that makes it moodier and I enjoy the sets that the movie used. I especially enjoy watching Gloria Swanson as Norma Desmond and Erich von Stoheim as Max (reminded me of Uncle Fester from the Addams Family). I thought the movie was as easily told today as it was back in the, what, 30's? Much of it was about a 50-year old woman who can't come to terms with her age, looks, and getting older. Nothing like that on TV today....ahem....Real Housewives of NY, LA, NJ, Beverly Hills ad nauseum. William Holden played the young man she finds and offers a job to help her rewrite her awful screenplay. He's paid and then asked to live with her and he's indignant from his first line to his last line. He's a little much, in my opinion, to listen to as an actor. But, everything else in the movie was a lot of fun to watch. The movie stands the test of time. I guess crazy is forever. It's a fun movie.
