Do not rent a DSL modem
I have Windstream for my internet provider. They had been providing a modem that I could connect my router with WiFi to. There modem went out so I ask them to send me a replacement. Windstream now charges rent for equipment. They sent a cheap all in one unit. I could not connect to WiFi two rooms over. Ten dollars a month for something that did not work for me. I ordered this Netgear DM111PSP and replaced there unit and connected the WiFi router I had been using.
Work great so far.
