    Great Club
I bought the Callaway Diablo Edge driver (stiff shaft) without hitting one. I'd seen them in stores and read reviews, and was glad to hear Callaway was once again making a driver that could compete with Taylormade and Cobra. I played my first round with the new driver yesterday and have to agree that Callaway is indeed back in the competitive driver business with this club. The feel of the club at impact is very solid. The ball comes off the clubface very solidly as well. I give credit to the Aldila shaft for this improved feel and response, which is considerable, given some of the shafts Callaway had been using. The new clubhead design and shape are appealing to me as well. If it "looks" like you can hit it better then you're stepping up to the tee with confidence. This club inspires that feeling. Keep in mind I didn't test hit this club at the range before going to play. I just teed it up, swung away and came away impressed. Naturally it took of couple of holes to get the "feel" of this new club, but even in that process ball flight and distance were both very good. Once I got into a good swing groove this club delivered. I had been hitting a Wilson Dd5 with an 8.5 degree loft (versus a 9 degree with this club), and length at my home course was at least equal to, and in some cases further, than with my old driver. When you have a 70 yard approach shot on a 362 yard hole, that's a plus at my age (50), or for that matter, any age. Mis-hits were also a plus, leaving me only 20 - 30 yards short of where I would have been with my old driver with a good shot, which was still a good position to score from. With the expanded sweet spot this club is nearly foolproof. I think as I get a few more rounds in with this club, along with some range time, this club will continue to blossom in my hands. If you're on the fence with this club, make the jump. Based on my experience I think you'll be glad you did. Do your research to determine which model is for you. The lower lofts in this model have neutral faces, the higher lofts are closed. The Tour model has an open face on the lower lofts, while the club head shape is more rounded and has what some would call a more typical hosel. Oh, and for reference I'm a 10 handicap. Good luck and keep it in the short grass!
