New Pair of (2) Front Strut Assemblies for a 2004-2010 Mazda 3 5
    14 September 2017
    Great Value, with Minor Hiccups
PROs: The ride is very smooth compared with the old struts, it handles like a new car again. The quality is good where it counts. They are great value for the home mechanic. CONs: There were two minor issues during installation. The first one is that the hole in the bracket that holds the brake hose is too small, the metal grommet around the hose would not fit through it. I didn't have the ability to drill the hole larger and so had to jury-rig an alternate method of holding the brake hose securely. The second issue was with the shiny metal caps at the top of the cylinder where the shaft comes out. The original struts did not have such a cap. The reason its an issue is the original struts had an inverted plastic cup that sat over that end of the cylinder, its purpose was to anchor the bottom end of the accordion-bellows tube that keeps the shaft clean. The replacement struts did not include an equivalent part. I pried off the plastic cups from the old struts and tried to install them on the new, but they would not fit. I just installed the bellows without anchoring the bottom end. Once the struts are installed, the weight of the vehicle will press those bellows down into contact with the metal plate underneath it, so it will probably be fine. Bottom Line: These struts fit where they need to and work well smoothing the ride, which is what matters most. Would I pay double or triple the price to correct the two minor issues mentioned? Nah, probably not. Overall the value is good.
Mini Digital Protractor Inclinometer Angle Finder Bevel Box with Magnet Base
    11 March 2021
Precision Instrument for the Price of a Plastic Protractor
I bought this to use with a fixed angle knife sharpener to set up precise bevels. I've tested it with a 24 inch bubble-style level and I'm impressed! It has a resolution down to 0.05 degrees, and it does seem to be repeatably accurate to +/- 0.05 degrees, better than I expected. You can set it against any reference surface, say 45 degrees, press the "ZERO" button and that sets the display to zero. Then it displays the number of degrees change from that reference angle (e.g. 43 degrees would show as 2 degrees). There are tiny arrows in the corners pointing up/down, indicating which way it is rotated. There is a magnet in the base which is strong enough to anchor it upside down against a steel surface, if that's your thing. If you turn it upside down, the display image flips over so the numbers can be read right-side up. You can turn on a backlight by holding the ZERO button down for about one second, though the display is perfectly readable without it, unless you are working in the dark. Tip: If you want to zero it to be EXACTLY absolute zero inclination, here's how to do it. Take a reading with the inclinometer sitting on your reference surface, then turn the inclinometer around 180 degrees (i.e. if the display was facing you then turn it so it's facing away from you) and take the reading again. Adjust the angle of your reference surface so that the inclinometer shows exactly the same reading in both positions, that only occurs when the reference surface is absolutely level. Zero the device and you are good to go.
O2 Commercial Air Pump794 GPH Aquarium Hydroponics Aquaponics Fish Pond
    08 January 2016
    Powerful, but smelly
This air pump moves a *lot* of air, it is far more powerful than plastic units. I haven't taken it apart, but from the outside it seems very rugged construction. I bought it to use as a vacuum pump to pick up electronic components for assembly, and for that task it is great. It needs a bit of back-pressure on the air outlet to keep it from being overly loud. If used with air stones and aquarium aerators there should be no problem with being too loud. The only negative aspect is it smelled very strongly of petroleum solvent when first unpacked. The smell was so strong I had to put the packing materials outside. Even after standing around for a few weeks, when switched on some solvent smell was still present. I'd be concerned about what that might do to aquatic life. My recommendations: It is great for extra large fish tanks or for a whole wall of small fish tanks like in a store. For typical home aquariums its overkill. Maybe it is only my one unit that was affected by the smell of solvent, but if not, it should probably be placed outdoors and switched on for a week or so to fully air it out before using it on an aquarium.
