Great for screen mirroring
My only purpose for this 3rd generation Apple TV is for "screen mirroring" of both my iPad Mini and iPhone7. It works great for that purpose. Easy to set up. Just remember that it connects to one of your TV's inputs so, to see it, you must use your TV remote to switch the input to the one you put the Apple TV on.
Just one warning though. If you have two apple devices like I do, the option for either Apple TV or Screen Mirroring may (temporarily) disappear from the Control Center of your iPad or your phone (the Control Center is what pops up on your handheld device if you swipe up from the bottom) if they are both connected at the same time to the same WiFi network as your Apple TV. (That may depend on which models of each you have, but that was the case for mine.)
If you want to use this for, e.g., your iPhone, I recommend you first turn off WiFi from your iPad until you are done using the screen mirroring function. Vice versa if you want to screen mirror your iPad. They can both be turned back on when you are done using the Apple TV screen mirroring function. But try it first without turning anything off and it may just work. If so, ignore the instructions above as all your devices are 100% compatible.
