The definitive OKLAHOMA!
This is it, the definitive recording of Rogers and Hammerstein's evergreen musical, Oklahoma. The original Broadway cast has the never to be equaled performance of Alfred Drake as well as the wonderful Celeste Holm as Ado Annie, but there are so many musical cuts that are very bothersome. Even the wonderful recent CD remastering in glorious mono sounds every bit of its age. This recording has wonderful modern sound, a superb cast of Laurence Guitard, the enequaled Christine Andreas, who is full of spunk and in an early supporting role Christine Ebersole as Ado Annie. Also delightful are the Will Parker of Harry Groener and the Ali Hakam of the late Bruce Adler. The score is given note complete, except for the dream ballet, and the conducting, which is often overlooked is very lively. Many people will want the soundtrack from the film with Gordon McRae and Shirley Jones, especially is the newest remastering which contains much music not previously available on CD or record, but this recording remains my choice if I can only have one.

Julie Budd--Pure Imagination = Pure Enjoyment
A long time ago, someone in a theater or music chat room recommended this to me, so of course I had to get it. Even though I have way too many CDs to properly listen to, this one makes it off the shelf with some regularity. The reason for this is I like the song choices and I like the voice a lot. Ms. Budd does not chose too many of the same songs that appear on every 3rd cabaret/voical album (Blame it on my Youth) but choses great songs recorded less often (the title tune, Looking Trhough the Eyes of Love, If You Love Me--Really Love Me and My Shining Hour). Then there are the choices that are good or great songs that you rarely hear (Where Am I going, Lets Fall in Love). Overall the album has a sense that all these songs can fit together, as they are all of a broadway or musical movie style, and that is always very important to me. If you can win the bid for this, you will enjoy the CD.

Great 40's style crooner/singer
Sadly, this is one of the few items that DRG ever allowed to go out of print, sadly because it is a teriffic album. Mr. Postillio flashed through the great New York scene for a few years and then dropped completely out of MY radar, I hope not out of th business. He is an old style crooner, and this album with full orchestra backing is a delight from start to finish. It will be enjoyed by all fans of 40s and 50's POP singers. Excellent song choices, some well known, others not so much. Everytime I pop this disc in my player, I just relax and enjoy. You will too, especially for the price.
