A cheap toy with problems syncing - well known issue.
0 of 1 found this helpful Fitbit tries like heck to get you to love their products - endless hyping from them thru daily emails and such. I've got the Alta, on my second one since the battery basically is going dead after 2 years on the first one. you need to set it up correctly at the beginning, with the most important being your step length, so get a reasonable accounting of steps/distance covered. I said "reasonable", not "accurate", as none of these toys can be truly accurate unless they actually measure the distance using gps data (wave your arm around and it's mistaken for steps). So, it's good for daily tracking of your activity and provides motivation to stay active, and nothing more (heck, guess that pretty good for a cheap product). The problem is these ARE "cheaply made" and won't last long. worse of it is that the Bluetooth syncing absolutely stinks (as is well documented by thousands of users). My second unit stopped syncing after less than 6 months of use (I've tried hard reset, resigning, etc...nothing works) and I'm stuck with a time that's from a different time zone from my previous trip, A cheap toy, helpful in some ways, but a toy nonetheless, one that's basically a throwaway value and Fitbit knows it.

11 of 14 found this helpful It has some good things going for it - full Windows unlike RT tablets, micro USB charging so no need to carry around special charger, nice screen, nice size. Unfortunately, glaring weaknesses makes it hard to recommend unless you can pick one up way under $200. Please, DO NOT buy if over $200 because there's better deals out there. The processor is adequate, at best, but lags at times, including during online browsing. If you pay these prices, browsing should be effortless but it's not and that's a sin for so-called premium product. Ridiculously high price for key cover option, although if you mind the slight size misfit, way cheaper keyboards for the older Surface RT and Pro works. One good thing is that, if you want a docking station, they're available online for under $30. If you don't mind the shorter battery life and the special charger, Surface Pro 2 is a compelling alternative as it'll give you more bang for the buck now. If you're thinking of getting a used one, make sure the tablet has absolutely no issues with charging port such a loose fit or slow charging and don't buy if the battery life is substantially reduced (say it get less than 2 hours from full charge). Nothing on this tablet is user replaceable so don't count on repairing anything if a component goes bad.

ONLY buy if you're needs are modest!
9 of 9 found this helpful Hardware spec wise, this is a nice tablet! HOWEVER, there's couple of things buyers need to be fully aware of before buying.
1. Although this unit is advertised as having 16 gb of internal memory, Barnes and Noble LOCKS the avaiable memory space for your own downloads to ONLY 1 gb. In other words, the storage space is basically useless UNLESS you download stuff you buy from B&N.
2. Severely restricted access to Android applications.
All this is ok IF you root the system with an Android root kit that's readily available - which allows you full access to Android. The root kit varies from $25 to over $50 depending on the memory size od the SD card it comes on.
So, if you consider the additional cost of getting full android experience than this tablet is NOT worth paying the full retail price for, ESPECIALLY with new tablets coming out almost every month and the impending release of Win 8 tablets. Also consider that you don't get bluetooth, camera, nor GPS which is pretty standard for every other "name brand" tablets now (except for Kindle Fire which I consider a piece of kaka for the price you have to pay).
I cannot recommend the stock model BUT if you can pick up a nice "rooted" unit for below $140, than it may be worth it for a SHORT TIME - remember GOOGLE tablet is coming out at any minute now for about the same price new as this.
In the final analysis - this tablet is already "near obsolete" - ONLY buy if you're needs are modest, or you're a novice to the tablet world and don't want to pay a high price to try!
