It's great value for money and very portable - quality isn't the best.
I use my Macbook Pro for multimedia work and needed an adaptor to connect to an external monitor (DVI-D). This adaptor will work with DVI-D.
PROS
- Product is cheap
- Very light-weight and portable
- Very useful inputs, particularly HDMI and DVI
CONS
- Although being cheap is great, you can definitely feel it is made from cheap plastic. It's not a huge con, but it's something to keep an eye out for (e.g over heating).
- Using a 2012 Macbook Pro 2.7GHz i7 8GB RAM, I've previously been able to connect 2 external monitors (HDMI and DVI). Unfortunately, when connecting a HDMI and DVI monitor to this adaptor, the HDMI monitor screen loses a lot of pixels/resolution and does not produce audio.
When the DVI cable is removed and only HDMI is connected, resolution/pixels and audio are perfect. I don't think the adaptor was made to connect multiple inputs at once - so if you're planning on using 3 screens with different cables, don't use this adaptor.
ALSO, this might save you from googling for hours. If you connect the external monitor and experience screen flickering or a black screen for a few seconds, don't be alarmed. I first thought the adaptor was faulty, but it will most likely be an issue caused by your Mac.
You will need to do a System Management Controller (SMC) Reset - which is very easy to do!
1. Turn OFF the Macbook
2. Disconnect any external cables to your Macbook (e.g USB, ethernet cable, Thunderbolt)
3. Connect the power adaptor to the Macbook
4. Hold down for 3 seconds the following keys and release all together
SHIFT + CONTROL + OPTION + POWER BUTTON
5. SMC will be reset. Turn your Macbook on, connect external monitor!
You shouldn't have any screen flickering any more. If you do, it should last for a minute. You may or may not experience a 3 second black screen every 10-15 minutes (which I still do, but it's no biggie).
Overall, I'd recommend buying this adaptor, it's cheap and handy to have around - even if you don't end up using it.
Also very fast postage from Melbourne to Sydney!
