Intelligent and useful catalog by Lorenz Eitner
I decided to buy this book because I already know excellent book by Eitner written on gericault: LORENT EITNER: Géricault: sa vie, son œuvre, Éditions Gallimard, Paris, 1991. (There is English version of this book too) and article LORENT EITNER: Géricault's „Dying Paris“ and the Meaning of his Romantic Classicism, Master Drawings, Vol. 1, No. 1, New York, 1963. Eitner is one of the most important scholars concerning Gericault. In this catalog there is very intelligently written Introduction, very informative chronology of Gericault's life and of exhibitions and Chronological Bibliography. The catalog of 125 oeuvres is written to be useful for scholars as same as for average public with Literature and Exhibitions for each of 125 items. As I am also writing scientific article on Gericault, I found this book very useful and I can recommend it to everybody interested in one of the greatest French painters of all times.
