The Mensware Sizing Manifesto (for Guys Who are Always In-Between Sizes)

First, know that clothing size should primarily be decided by function and guided by the tape measure. For example, I typically "size up" when I am buying clothes to relax or lounge around in, or sometimes, to do physical activity. I typically "size down" when I am buying clothes to look sharp or trying to be "stylish." So what size am I? Well, I'm both L and XL depending on the function of the clothing. This works for pants too. To put a finer point on this, I've bought both L and XL sizes of the same shirt in the past, using each for different occasions.

Now, by the tape measure, I currently have a 46 inch chest. But when I shop for off-the-rack suit jackets I typically wear a size 42. What gives? Shouldn't I be shrink wrapped in my tweed coat? To be contin
