Harmless Fun for the kids - bearable for adults
My daughter saw the trailer on another film and had been talking about it, so I got her a copy. I watched the film first because it was a PG, and I wanted to be sure about the content. I would say the film is pitched for about 10 year olds upwards as there is mild love interest that might not be ideal for younger viewers, but there is nothing inappropriate as such.. This was my main concern. The story was compelling, maybe a little 'preachy', I found it watchable as an adult - which is always a bonus...especially when your kids can happily watch a film a dozen times in a week. The action was good - maybe some of the kids were not the best actors in the world, but the main characters played well. Storyline had a nice twist, although adults would see it coming fairly early on. My daughter has not yet watched it as it is part of series of 'treats' that she can chose as a reward. My opinion is that she will watch the film and enjoy it, but probably not to the extent that she would enjoy a Disney cartoon as she is significantly below the 'ideal'(IMO) age of 10 years or so... Adults can watch with their kids without feeling they would rather be watching teletubbies - at least the first two times... I don't think it will become my daughters favourite film though. What else can you say? reasonably strong cast headed up by Kurt Russell, if you want the full (spoiler alert!) run-through check it out on Wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sky_High_(2005_film)

The best group that I have NEVER heard of...
I bought this on the insistence of a friend - I was pestered into buying and and boy am I glad I did. In fact, I was recommended to get the retrospective album, but found it was too expensive (when you consider I had not heard a note of their music...). I settled for Fear of a Blank Planet as the best price I could get on a Porcupine Tree CD, and I am very impressed with it. If you have not heard Porcupine Tree, then I would say that if you like Pink Floyd and Keane and don't mind a bit of grunge thrown in with your melodies, then you will love this. I am not going to give a song by song de-construct, I favour an overview that gives some clues as to what delights this album holds. I am not familiar with any other material that has come forth from this group so I don't know if this is typical, but the sound on this album is positively cinematic at times, raw and intimate at others. The textures of the tracks swing from acoustic picking, through rolling synths and incorporating some filthy, percussive guitar chords that wouldn't be out of place on a death-metal album... and all of this combines in the most wonderful way (believe me, I am no death-metal fan!). The title track, has the most tremendous lyric that has ever been delivered in deliberate monotone: 'My face....is Mogadon" wow - It doesn't look much on the page, but delivered in the context of this musical masterpiece, it is stuck in my head and shows no inclination to leave anytime soon! There is NOTHING that I dislike about this - I have listened on my PC at work, in the car, the home stereo and MP3 - There is nothing that makes the walk to work go quicker than to have Fear of a Blank Planet running through my brain as the morning soundtrack - I would happily recommend this album (and probably anything else by this group on the strength of it) to anyone with a mature yet open-minded musical taste. I for one, will buy more...

Nice Little Camera
It's not exactly state-of-the-art, but this camera does what it says on the tin and then some... It IS little, of that there is no doubt... you won't even be able to get two hands around it, but everything about it says quality. I bought this for not a lot of cash to replace my expired Ricoh, and I prefer it to the Ricoh. It's only 3MP, but I find that quite adequate for point and shoot, family snaps, though maybe not the first choice to shoot rolling landscapes... Typically battery-hungry, but compared with others of it's vintage, I think it rises above the crowd.
