A most scrupulously historically faithful, and most exciting, production!
It is one of the few almost-completely historically-accurate films ever made, brilliantly--and most authentically--acted, written, and directed, and never less than most grippingly rendered.

A true classic from Hammer's most productive period, both quantitatively and qualitatively!
1 of 1 found this helpful This is Hammer at its best, stressing fright, suspense, historical accuracy, highly moral direction and scripting, and brilliant acting! One of Oliver Reed's finest performances, and one that definitely marked him as potentially among the greatest stars--and actors--of his generation. Terence Fisher's direction is certainly one of his finest efforts, and the other cast members all stand out.
