A good beginning to a great series.
A short brutal sf story that grabs you and doesn't let go. The plot is fascinatingly complex, and the characters are memorable, if horribly fractured. Somewhat self-contained, but you'd be mad not to read Forbidden Knowledge, the next in the series. Be warned - there are scenes of violence, cruelty and some adult language. Not for the faint of heart.
