Excellent fictionalised account of a major event - Dunkirk
As a keen amateur military historian I was interested in this book because it is the main source material for the film Dunkirk - starring John Mills, Bernard Lee and Richard Attenborough.
That it is the source becomes immediately apparent from Page 1. Trevor sets the action and describes - through the dialogue of the main characters - the way in which an ordinary soldier would view the situation. Using very ordinary language he clearly makes the case that - though not of the High Command - many soldiers would fully understand the severity of their situation and then go on to successfully address issues arising.
An excellent read which - although reporting on actual events - is a fictionalised record of a major event in British Military history.
Anyone who wishes to better understand Dunkirk should read this. It would be of quite limited interest to non-afficionados of military history.

Water/Wine carafe
