Quirky, catchy Edmunds album
Dave Edmunds' foray into "New Wave", mixing his signature guitar sounds with the heavy overlay of synthesizers and other early 80s trappings, takes a while to adjust to but eventually the catchy lyrics and songs win out. There's just too much gleeful pop innocence to not like songs like "Don't You Double" and "Have a Heart" though he probably should have put the vocoder away for the "Watch on My Wrist". As an album that will make you smile, and appreciate Edmunds' deep talent and experimentalism, this is a solid effort.

Enjoyable sci-fi
6 of 6 found this helpful The Invaders is a well-written, story driven (rather than effects driven) episodic sci-fi series that lifts a page from "The Fugitive", following architect David Vincent as he travels from town to town trying to convince a disbelieving world about the presence of aliens on earth. The highlights are the stellar acting of Roy Thiennes as David Vincent and highly effective use of creepy music, camera angles and "aliens who look like us". Like many episodic tv shows of the 1960's and 1970s, the Invaders could have definitely benefitted from some overarching story lines and continunity between episodes -- Vincent is always picking up a new lead and frequently not closing off others, and he is essentially the only continuing character from one episode to another. However, it is particularly admirable of the way the stories are effectively told, without excessive violence or effects -- it is a true homage to old school Science Fiction in that respect. Overall, highly recommended!

A Worthy Recreation of a Memorable Time
1 of 1 found this helpful The Bronx is Burning is a very worthy recreation of the famous 1977 Yankees season with memorable acting by Oliver Platt (Steinbrenner), John Turturro (Billy Martin) and Daniel Sunjita (Reggie Jackson). The supporting characters are also well developed and the story is entirely engaging. The other things happening around New York -- such as Son of Sam Killings -- are covered but definitely come across as secondary to the baseball plot, which is strong enough to carry the day. Full credit to ESPN for putting together this excellent package: if you are a Yankees or baseball fan, you won't be disappointed. (P.S. A lot of historical footage is really intelligently weaved into the plot, including famous ABC broadcasts of the season and World Series by Keith Jennings and Howard Cosell.)
