Charming story worth reading more than once.
Checked this book out from the library, read it and lent it out and two more people read it before it was returned. Then I decided I wanted to read it again and wanted a copy on my bookshelf so I bought a copy of my own. Short easy read about small southern town in the 1940s; nice snapshot of an time long gone.

Good but wishing for more
I read this book twice; actually restarted reading it as soon as I finished it; I found it very touching and fascinated that such a young writer had such insight. I thought it would make a great, moving movie so when I found someone had made a movie I had to watch it. I think the attempt of the film to capture the poetic mood of the book overshadowed the telling of the story so much to the point that the movie would be very hard to make sense of it you had not read the book first. I would recommend to anyone who enjoyed the book just to see one interpretation of how it could be filmed. I would not recommend to anyone who is unfamiliar with the book because too much prior knowledge of the story is assumed. That being said; I'm sure I'll watch several more times because aspects of a great story do come to life.
