Good , but
Ok first I am not a Luddite I have worked with computers for about 30 odd years having said that the Android I have managed to avoid each other until now. (Mainly because the first time I tried using one with Google maps I arrived around 5 minutes before the phone caught up ...very slow)
Install was easy on the surface, the unit was made for the Vito and the mounts just slide in , the multi connector just plugged together . However I did have an auto electrician do the install mainly because running the rear camera unit the length of the van for me was daunting and the cable was of course not long enough and needed extending. (Very long wheel base van) . Also the GPS aerial and the wired microphone (which they call blue tooth? for some reason ) needed to brought up to the dash.
I ended up disconnecting the microphone as everyone on the phone said I sounded like I was down a toilet..and the Google commands does not hear this microphone just the inbuilt one ? Which they warn you about.
Then the tricks started to appear.
First when I open the door on the van if the unit is just in sleep mode (less then 10 minutes since it was turned off) the screen wakes for about a second .
Not at all sure why the vans dash wakes when you open the door and even less sure why it would send a pulse to the head unit?
I was warned with the OBD II that if I got a blue tooth one then I could not pair the phone at the same time , so I got the wifi version, trap avoided ? again yes and no.
Wifi in a car is it would seem is also a single link so no internet connection via the phone while connected to the OBD II means you can't run Google maps at the same time.
Also if you use one of these it seems it acts like a router the unit has a fixed IP 192.168.0.10 port 35000. But it does something weird and the android wifi connection uses 192.168.0.11 as an IP , I assumed that was it's address, and spend a good two hours before this became apparent it will only connect on the .10 address.
To be fair to them it came with mini disk if I still had a something that read a disk may well have explained all.
....I was thinking I could maybe use tethering via the USB connection to avoid using up the wifi link , but missed the fact you have to set the head unit to look for the phone via wifi so that does not seem to be an option.
Someone made a design decision on the head unit I found hard to understand the USB connection comes out of the rear so you have to have a cable dangling out of the dash somehow ? Very strange
I went back to using the inbuilt IGO which uses the internal GPS Instead of google maps so as not to tie up the wifi, which took me on a 5k uses loop the first time I used it , I suspect because it is hard to keep theses maps updated , I know Google maps is not perfect just on the whole they seem to have the ability to keep them more accurate.
I Used the max 32gb SD card and put a lot of music and audio books on it the players seem to find everything but play lists are labour intensive, so I used Winamp to create Play lists , MP3 gain to normalise the volume . I also paid for poweramp. on the android its interphase makes a lot of sense and is easy to use while driving
Then if I put the key in the ingnitition I can turn the head unit on which is nice if you just want to set things up without starting the car however, when I start the car it always boots the unit from scratch ?? Which completely negates the usefulness of the sleep mode , and the reverse cam is not available for the most obvious time you need it backing out of the park (about 45 seconds to boot )
In summary I would rate the experience at about 6 out of ten.
You can almost get it all working most of the time , but you need to do a lot of fiddling and and once you get it mostly happening it may not stick and you spend more time when you get back in the car setting it up again.
Would I send it back , no, it does mostly work, the worst offender is the 45 sec lag on starting the car of it means if you need to see the reverse cam it takes way to long.
