Nada+( DVD, 2005)

This Art-house Gem from Cuba deserves at least one viewing.
Filmed in almost all black & white, the Director Juan Carlos Cremata Maberti does emphasize certain objects in certain scenes to add flavor to said scenes; even during some comedic moments.
This story about a young woman who works at the Cuban Post Office, becomes obsessed with making the written messages something really worth reading; so obsessed she starts to read others' mail, and what she does with the letters moves the plot into the woven web of snowballing consequences.
The young woman, Carla, demonstrates her inner being of emotions through the words she writes for others to others, in her starving self-need to want to help others in her own sincere way. Yet she struggles with her parents, who won a Lottery Visa to the USA.
Part comedy, part drama, this film is unlike any other out there. Drop a letter off at the Havana Post Office and I will write you back something worth reading.

Shelter Dogs( DVD, 2009)

A 2 year project that filmmaker Cynthia Wade put together was touching indeed.
Ms. Wade was permitted to film at the Rondout Valley Kennels in New York State, and recorded the decisions by the Owner, Sue Sternberg.
Ms. Sternberg does bring great questions for those who think that they have all the answers to the overpopulations of almost all animal shelters in this country:
1) what if the animal shows aggression?
2) what if the shelters do go No Kill - what happens to the increasing number of animals that never get adopted out?
3) life in a cage - is it really good for the animal?
This movie did win awards at two film festivals.
