The handset I received must be defective.
In addition to purchasing this handset, which does match the base unit model I have and is meant to replace a handset that broke, I purchased a new, correct battery. I correctly installed the new battery in the handset and placed it in the charger for the correct amount of time. The new handset will not connect with the base unit, even when it is placed next to the base unit and the trouble shooting procedures are followed. As an experiment and to test to see if the new battery was the problem, I swapped batteries from a working handset with the new battery purchased for this one. The existing, working handset worked with the new battery, but the new handset still will not work with the battery from the existing handset. Conclusion, the problem is the new handset. All model #'s for handset and batteries are correct and correctly installed and charged, but the new handset just won't work. I can only conclude that the new handset I received is defective.
