It is what it is. From the past. America meets Arabia.
I got this book because, while reading (trying to read) "Princess" by Jean Sasson I found a reference to this book as a true (as opposed to fake) story of marriage to an Arabian prince.
I do think it is a true story. The take-home points for me were few:
1) The author is from an earlier generation. Even if she'd stayed in America, she'd likely have had a passel of kids and would have spent most of her time and energy on them. Therefore, being stuck in the home compound all the time was less of a noticeable restriction for her than it would be for a more modern woman.
2) Ultimately her husband divorced her! (Sorry, that's a spoiler). The author didn't write about that much. (Maybe there were legal reasons for that.) And yes, she did lose custody of some of her children.
So, bottom line: it isn't necessarily WORTH IT to marry some rich Arabian dude who can shower you with gold jewelry. You can't wear it out of the house anyway. Then he gets tired of you and takes your kids away.
(I guess it worked better than that for Queen Noor.)
The writing style of this book is subtly, yet definitely old-fashioned. I wish I could say what it is, technically, that makes the style so pre-feminist/woman/mid-20th-century.
I do think it is more realistic than Jean Sasson's "Princess" book.

Good as gold
I have a bracelet more or less like this (has a bow, is hinged) in real white gold and diamonds. I actually like this one BETTER!

Beautiful
These are very beautiful in a more restrained and wearable way than some of the larger, more florid Alexis Bittar earrings.
