Well Researched Tribute to Titanic's Most Endearing Couple
As a Titanic historian, I am always collecting new books related especially to the passengers and crew of the RMS Titanic's maiden voyage and tragic disaster. No story of courage is more romantic than that of Isador and Ida Straus. It was with great anticipation that I read this book. It was extremely well researched and written, and presented the Straus family as one of the most influential families of not only New York City, but also the nation. However, rarely were any family flaws examined, such as the story of the Straus's maid, Ellen Bird's experience upon landing in New York Harbor after the Titanic sank and Mr. and Mrs. Straus were lost at sea. Mrs. Straus had placed her own fur coat on Miss Bird as the young maid boarded one of the twenty lifeboats. Mrs. Straus stepped back with her husband, to share his fate, and Miss Bird survived. When the Carpathia arrived in New York, and Miss Bird was seen wearing Mrs. Straus's coat, it is reported that one of the Straus daughters demanded it be given back to the family. Miss Bird complied. This report was not addressed in the book, nor were any other disagreeable stories that might have been disputed in this book. Other than that, I really enjoyed the book and highly recommend it.

Excellent Story of the Irish Immigrants aboard Titanic
Hazel's novelization of the fourteen young people from this one little Irish village is well written and gives readers a glimpse at the dreams, hopes and fears of steerage passengers in a fresh perspective. Hazel made efforts to make the story as accurate as possible. It's also very romantic, and has a nice twist at the end that I never saw coming! Very satisfying to read. I enjoyed it and I believe other readers will as well.
