psychedelic gem
Great album, love the original line up Guru Guru, although the Guru legacy and music continues today...excellent musical interplay, firmly psychedelic more than Krautrock. Vinyl mastering is very well done, and the yellow/orange splatter vinyl looks awesome. good quality import, had reasonable shipping time and was a good value.
Buy this if you like Guru Guru or early psychedelic rock in general!

The packaging rivals the music!
Amazing "comeback" album from Scott McCaughey after surviving a stroke, then relearning to communicate and play guitar. Music and lyrics reflect the mental confusion and disorientation he was going through. Would have to describe this overall as psychedelic power pop, but the variety of music styles and feels almost makes it hard to categorize...but who cares, it's excellent.
Now for the packaging: presented like an MRI, with bright green and pink "brain imprint" in the viewed through a brain-shaped cutout in the black cover. When the sleeve is removed, white handwriting on a black background is revealed - rambling notes he wrote in the hospital about Beatles songs, incoherent stuff, and imploring himself to listen to the Grateful Dead's "Uncle John's Band". The sleeve itself is heavy clear plastic with a brain pattern in bright green, revealing the pink and white swirl vinyl within. Along with the LP's label, it forms the " brainwave" composition pictured when all assembled together. Very cool and unique!
As with most Minus 5 releases this is primarily Scott M. with REM's Peter Buck. Guests include Steve Wynn, Linda Pitmon, Jeff Tweedy, and Jenny Conllee & John Moen of the Decembrists.

Shimmering sound
Nice reissue on vinyl, expansive washes of, well, lush sound. Sonically in the same camp as the Cocteau Twins…not surprising with Robin Guthrie producing this as well. Maybe their best, I’m fond of the collection of early EPs also, Gala. One of the earliest and best of the so-called “shoegaze” bands.
