Great Interpretation
This DVD is excellent in all respects EXCEPT Martin Sheen is terrible as Robert E. Lee. Tom Berenger however is an excellent Longstreet. Picket's Charge is so realistic that it is hard to watch. Chamberlain's defense of Little Round Top is intense. All in all, it will leave you with the impression that war is about blood and death, and should not be taken lightly as it was the bloodiest war ever fought by this country.

Clinical Dicta and Contra Dicta: Dynamics in Psychotherapy
1 of 1 found this helpful An encapsulation of a lifetime of work and sacrifice to a profession requires that a dedicated professional be teacher and student at all times. John Espy's "Clinical Dicta and Contra Dicta" is not a tome loaded with heavy autobiography and narrative about years of practice. It is in fact a small but concise look at Dr. Espy's thoughts concerning the practice of Psychotherapy, and how we experience our lives while helping a patient.
The First section is a set of engaging aphorisms and analects. They challenge the reader with their immediacy. Some the reader will find agreement, others may create discordance, but finally, and perhaps the ultimate purpose of this section is to make the reader reflect and think about clinical choices. Dr. Espy has cut away didactic noise, and presented specific ideas and experiences gleaned from thirty five years of clinical experience.
The Second section is a set of narratives about encounters with patients, "human beings", not numbers in a procedure payment book.
The Third section, and one of particular interest to Dr. Espy, concerns "Malignant" Projective Identification as it specifically pertains to serial mass murderers. This information is chilling, as it describes how a perpetrator manages to feed into the needs of a victim, then ensnares this victim in a loop of dependence. While deeper than that, one refers back to Dr. Espy's acclaimed trilogy "Eat the Evidence" about pedophiliac cannibal Nathaniel Bar Jonah.
Clinical Dicta and Contra Dicta is a very concise book, and might encourage the reader to read multiple times, or slowly read each page. This is the key to the clinical mind of Dr. Espy. This is at once an engaging book, and perhaps a key to illuminations in the practice of psychotherapy. I highly recommend this book. I hope you will find that you are both student and teacher as you enjoy this wonderful book.
