Swift Eaglet 7x36 825R Binocular With Box/Papers all factory supplies
10 April 2018
Best Buy for Butterflies
My recent eBay purchase of this binocular was my second 7x,36 Eaglet--the first one got away. My main binocular for birding is a 7x,42 Zeiss Victory--not something I want banging around on a backpack or canoe trip. At a tenth of the cost, the Swift is PERFECT in that role and has the added advantage of magnificent close focus. Ever since Swift cloned the B&L Zephyr in the lat fifties they have produced some sleepers in the binocular world--the Eaglet, I think, is the most versatile of them.

Carl Zeiss Diascope 65 T* FL 15 - 45x Eyepiece Angled Spotting Scope - Pristine

When lightness is more important than light
For fifteen years my main birding scope has been a Swarovski STS80 with a Manfrotto 3221WN tripod with 3130 head. My back is not aging gracefully, and a recent trek after shorebirds convinced me I needed to lighten up. So the Zeiss Diascope 65 (angled) and Carbon One 444 with Grifiti Nootle head. It makes a world of difference on the trek. My Diascope has the 15-45X zoom, and at low magnification I don't miss the STS80's brightness or field of view with its fixed 30X wide eyepiece. As a rule I don't even try to bird above 30X, so I don't feel I've lost much on the optical end, while I'm carrying 7 lbs. 9 oz. instead of 10 lbs. 6 oz.
