Fear of Flying
This book was purchased for a literature class I took at college. I will say that I would not have read this book for any other reason. I did laugh at some of the phrases and word choices throughout the story but, overall, the book was poorly put together. Jong's writing style is very similar to that of a young and hyperactive child. She randomly throws objects in to the book that serve no purpose. She also fails to follow any particular timeline and skips around to different times of her life. I am amazed that she was so bold in her writing. She was the first woman to write any kind of story that touched so boldly on a woman's sexuality as this book did. The ending left me hanging but I liked that the main character, Isadora, was able to fly.

The Old Man and the Sea
3 of 3 found this helpful I had to purchase this book for a literature class at college. I do not necessarily care for Hemingway's choppy journalistic style of writing. I do, however, respect what this book represented at the time it was written. I understand that this book was written as a result of Hemingway's newfound belief in God. I felt that he provided great imagery in a tale that was to the point. Throughout the book I found references to faith and christianity by his use of numbers and a number of statements. Anyone can sit down and ready this in an hour or two. Read it again and see if you understand it differently the second time.

Zorro
I had to purchase this book for a literature class. I like the book because it provided a background for Zorro's character that no other story has told. Allende was very precise in her choices of characters and events that Diego would encounter. She did a great job bringing the reader in and I really liked the ending!
