Bulletproof tranny? Atomic has it covered!
Atomic does great work with any part I’ve bought for various RCs. These gears fit great, there is no grabbing or tightness. There was a tiny bit of play in the shaft that holds the spur gear, but once everything was tightened down, I really didn’t see the need for a shim. Upgrading the tranny with the center diff has made this pretty bulletproof. Be sure to use a little lithium grease - these are metal, so they don’t exactly self lubricate.
Absolutely a great upgrade for a small amount of coin!

Much, much better than expected.
Build quality is bar none. You will not find better quality unleash you buy things at an audiophile shop. I’ve done repair since high school, and desined my own stuff and made my own PCBs since I was 18. The things that come from big box stores are made to maximize profits. They have thin pcb traces, bad layout that causes all sorts of emi problems in their design, and are populated with components that are selected to “work,” but not “sing.”
I can’t tell you how much difference the tube makes, as there is no way to bypass it to A/B. I can tell you that stereo separation reminds me of a Bryston, with a warmer sound.
This is not an amp for people who believe that the bass needs to be cranked for something to sound good. This reproduces music without boomy bass, without strident mids, and without annoying highs. Everything is clear and present and it sounds good through good to decent speakers. Don’t use the flappy paper coned speakers that came with the matched component system from Penny’s. Get some OK JBLs, or perhaps some Polks.
There are no tone controls. You don’t need them. I listen to nearly every type of music except for pop and “new” country. Classical, 60s and 70s rock, psychedelic, metal, electronic from the 70s through present, industrial, punk, and weird experimental and alternative. Heck, I even like some rap. It covers all these bases well.
I’ve heard better stereos, but the cheapest “better” one was, again not from a big box, but was an entry level monoblock tube that was offered at around 1800.
Appreciation of tone is pretty subjective. I recommend that you buy decent components, two separate transformers, and decent speakers plus the time to assemble. You will *not* be disappointed.

Amazing synthesis of action and RPG!
I am not an RPG gamer. I liked the Final Fantasy series when the PS1 was around, but really gravitated toward more action oriented games.
Fallout combines a unique point of view system - switchable between third and first person - with action and an experience based level system that can't be beat.
The plot is engaging and rather unique. The world in which the game is set is a divergent timeline from our own. After WW2, the America in the game universe entered a state of near xenophobia. The nation never evolved from the iconic '50s imagery and values.
At the beginning of the 21st century, nuclear war erupted. Some people went into large underground fallout shelters called "Vaults." Some did not. After the radiation subsided, people emerged from the Vaults to a wasteland. Some decided to stay underground in their protected chambers.
Two hundred years after the Vaults closed, your character pursues his (or her) father to find out why he left and why the leader of the vault wants you dead.
Gameplay is great. The decisions that you make influence the way the non-player characters interact with you. Radiation exposure through the environment and food affects your character. The way the game is played is up to you - from good to bad, from stealthy to small "noocleer 'sploshuns," the choice is up to the player. It's a lot of fun.
Fight sequence results are a product of your character's skill at the weapon type, distance, and opponent's armor and "dexterity." At each sequence, you are allowed a few shots that target specific appendages or torso. Once exhausted, however, the fight turns into a near brawl with whatever weapon you have in your hand. This very much appeals to the action-oriented gamer in me.
There seems to be several expansions and new quests available for download or purchase, which is good as the basic game is engaging, thrilling, and occasionally macabre...good for the horror fiend in all of us.
If you like both RPG and action, you'll really enjoy this. If you favor one over the other, give this game a go as it combines the strong elements of both styles almost seamlessly.
