Great EHX reverb flexibility in a small package!
I already have the EHX Cathedral(and love it) and wanted something that could capture a little of what the Cathedral could do in a compact pedal. I watched reviews on it and decided that I would try it out. Likes: True bypass! The price is decent for what it is, but it's a nice pedal and it's not free. Worth the price though! It can give verbs from very subtle to over the top and sometimes wacky with the Flerb setting. The 3 knobs on the Holy Grail Plus give you more room to tweak and experiment compared to the Nano Holy Grail. I like the Hall setting the most, and the Spring setting is very organic and very usable for someone who doesn't do much with 'effects' and doesn't want a lot of funky pedals in their chain. It's a nice, sturdy, and compact chassis. Gives you much capability, and leaves room on your pedalboard. Dislikes: Not many, but the Flerb setting is too weird for me and my style, and could be too weird for many other styles too, but that's opinion. I would've rather had them add a different and more useable setting instead, though there are 3 other useable settings on the pedal, so it's a minor point. I found out that if you have a long reverb on and you bypass it while decaying, you can re-engage the pedal and hear whatever decay was left. Hard to explain, but it may be inconveient to some. All in all, I would give the pedal a 9 out of 10. EHX seems to do things right quite often, and this is no exception. I would always watch a review/demo to make sure you know roughly what it can do. My only recommendation is that if you like what this pedal can do but want more reverb capability for your sound,(which I did because I'm a BIG reverb fan) check out the EHX Cathedral Stereo Reverb! One of my top 3 favorite pedals of all time. Go out and make music!

Great organic distortion at a great price!
I bought this pedal because I wanted a pedal that did distortion but I didn't need anything too crazy, or pricey. In the same price range I found the BBE AM64 Distortion first, but it was very noisy and I like to keep my pedalboard as quiet as possible. I had heard through the grape vine that Guitar Center had this pedal for sale at one point, but it wasn't available anywhere else. This caught my ear because I like things that not a lot of other people have. I was also made aware of the fact that the M-86 is supposed to be identical(internally) to the MXR Distortion III, which costs more than twice as much new. So I decided to give it a try! I was very pleased when I plugged it in for the first time. It gives me just what I want in a distortion pedal. Simple: level, tone, and distortion knobs makes it easy to get a sound you like. This chassis is well built, and the knobs and switch seem to be sturdy. It has a very responsive quality to it, and it can provide you with rich harmonic overtones while remaining smooth. I was happy to hear the tube-like distortion I was looking for. It seems to have a bit of midrange emphasis, which I like in a heavier overdrive sound. It's not all that noisy when on, which I really like. FYI, it is not like a Boss DS-1. The DS-1 can get very brittle and fizzy if you aren't careful. For just a few dollars more, I think you get a much more usable pedal (it is supposed to be true bypass as well). That's my opinion anyhow. The only thing I would maybe change about the pedal is to have more distortion available on tap. When the 'distortion' knob is maxed, it is basically a very heavy overdrive, but not heavy distortion. It definately has enough gain for my taste, but just not as much as I expected. If you need something that is ultra-high gain, this is not the pedal for you. Also, for those of you who know about the 'secret switch' in the MXR M-66 Classic Overdrive and are hoping that this pedal is the same way, it does NOT have a switch inside. At least this one didn't. I opened it up myself, and no switch. In short, this pedal is great for my style. I play contemporary worship music/Christian rock at my church and I wanted to have something that could serve as my hi-gain sound. My signal chain is this: '93 Strat Plus, Dunlop Crybaby Classic, Ernie Ball Volume Pedal, TC Electronic Polytune (in tuner out of VP) Visual Sound Route 66, MXR M-66 Classic Overdrive, MXR M-86 Classic Distortion, Eventide Modfactor, Boss RV-3, Electro-Harmonix Cathedral, Line 6 DL4, BBE Sonic Stomp, '91 2x12 50W Marshall Bluesbreaker Re-issue. I use this pedal to drive those parts that I need that extra gain for. With true bypass switching, affordable price tag, small footprint on your pedalboard, and a nice tube-like sound, it's hard to go wrong with this pedal. If you play metal or something else that you need a heavy+ distortion for, this may not be your pedal. Highly recommended!

VERY smart buy, endless capability, and easy to use!
First of all, I know what people say about multi-effects units. I know that the 'tone purist' cannot possibly gel with any kind of digital signal processing. Though I'd like to think that I care a lot about my tone, I ended up trying this unit out. In short, I was VERY impressed and VERY pleasantly surprised. (The problem with writing a review of the M13 is that there is so much one could talk about, but I will keep it to the point.) This unit, the Line 6 M13, is what one could call a 'stompbox modeler'. It does not do amp or cab modeling of any kind. The stompboxes in the M13 could be summed up something like this... Line 6 DL4 + Line 6 MM4 + Line 6 FM4 + Line 6 DM4 + Line 6 Verbzilla + More = Line 6 M13. It LITERALLY has every effect from those 5 units plus 25+ others that you would not see in any of them. This puts the number of different effects sitting at 100+. NOTE: The M13 will only have all of these 100+ effects IF YOU HAVE FIRMWARE VERSION 2.0 OR LATER! Buy a MIDI-USB cable, but it is a small price to pay IMO. So be sure to get the newest firmware! I won't go into much detail on how to operate it, but Line 6 was going for simplicity with the M13. I would say they succeeded, and in flying colors. It is supposed to work like an actual pedalboard and, to my surprise, it turns out that it DOES work a lot like a pedalboard. You simply assign 3 effects to 4 different groups. You can have 1 effect active from each group at any time, meaning you could have 4 effects on at one time. For many people, 4 at once is more than enough. All you do is activate the effect you want to create/edit, set the knobs how you want, and as soon as you switch the effect off or go to a different one, it's all saved. No special button combinations of any kind are required. I think you may be able to turn this feature off, but don't quote me on that because I haven't tried it. You can also route an effects loop of your own pedals before or after any effects group. For instance, if you had some reverb pedal you loved but you didn't want to put it before or after the entire M13, you could route it between...let's say FX1 and FX2. You could then have your overdrive sound coming from FX1 feeding into your reverb pedal, then into...let's say an analog delay in FX2. Hopefully that makes sense. There is also a 28 second(I think) looper available at the tap of a button. If you want to, you can play in half-speed before you record to give you a 56 second looper! So there's more to be said about capabilities of the M13, but these are some of the cool features. Features on this get a 10 out of 10 from me. Now for sound quality! This is the make or break for many people on the fence. I will rate the major categories: OD/Dist- 7/10 Delay- 9/10 Reverb- 9/10 Filter- (I don't use filters so IDK) Modulation- 8/10. My quick assessment is this: I would throw your existing OD/Dist pedals in the mix if you're really happy with your OD/Dist sound. If you don't have any stompboxes, I wouldn't worry about it. You can get some pretty decent drive out of the M13. The rest is very good for the most part. For the price, you couldn't ask for more. The ONLY thing I would say could be improved is the quality of the switches. They are ok, but they aren't the greatest. If you want extreme but simple versatility, the M13 is your jam. I have never been a multi-effects guy, but this unit is truely a step forward in digital effects modeling and has changed my opinion. A+
