Visual Studio 2005 ... Best in class for its time bar none

Visual Studio 2005 introduced the Code Definition window. For C++ development it is very much like a faster version of Visual Studio 2008, and a more capable version of Visual Studio 2003. It installs on Windows 2000 SP4, has a low memory footprint, is fast (edit-and-continue is nearly instantaneous, almost as fast as Visual Studio 1998). For 32-bit development on older, slower equipment it is truly excellent. One of Microsoft's best developer products.
