Solid functional technology with strong but "phone quality" sound and poor usability
1 of 2 found this helpful Clearly the engineers of this product had their priorities with the amount of functionality and a solid, sturdy build. The sound is strong (loud) but in no way HiFi. Compared with these amazing tiny portable speakers you get today, its really just "phone quality". But that's acceptable for an "emergency" radio.
What's more of a downer is the poor usability. There are a lot of buttons and clearly a custom made display so the hardware potential for a clear and easy user experience would be there. But its just frustrating how inexplicably illogical most of the buttons and modes work and how cryptic labels and symbols are used both on buttons and the display. In an emergency you probably have other priorities than searching for the ***** manual.
The battery selection (AAA cells vs. LI-ION) is manual rather than automatic and not locked. I guess one can easily discharge the backup AAA cells by mistakenly brushing this button. Haven't tried though.
The two flashlight modes are cool, including the glow-in-the dark framing.
