Why do phones need to introduce new models every year? Truly a waste of resources, money, time!

Overall performance of this phone is a step backwards from my S8. Yes, specs are impressive but as far as functioning as a practical communication tool for me during my work day, the S20 has failed me. Can't get the calling over wi-fi to activate, (hours online with tech support), has to be on a charger throughout the day or it won't last. No LED for notifications, you have to fire up the screen to see if you've missed a call or message! Why did they move the volume up/dn buttons? Now they are all on one side of case and you have to use two hands for some functions. I will adapt, however it is just another disappointing 'upgrade' that forces features I don't want or need and degrades the primary functions of the product.
