Robben Ford - The Blues and Beyond (DVD, 2003)
2 of 2 found this helpful DVD is for an Advanced Player, so you need sufficient knowledge of chord voicings and scales as a basis for both jazz and blues. What Robben does is takes chord voicings and scales, what his approach is, to the next level. Taking the song "Ain't Got Nothing But The Blues" by Duke Ellington, he spells out a new approach using modified/advanced voicings and how they are played, along with diminished scales to supplement standard blues scales. By reviewing the video, and I also purchased his book, this course of study has enhansed my playing, and playing approach to both blues and jazz. It is a must have if you want to play like a pro.

Robben Ford, The Blues and Beyond book/CD Package, 1992
I purchased both the Blues and Beyond DVD and the Book (with CD). The book is invaluable for the advanced blues/jazz guitarist. Robben provides two songs, Revelations (his former group The Yellow Jackets) and Ain't Got Nothing But The Blues (Duke Ellington). The book goes into great detail on his approach to altered/advanced chord voicings that you can apply to other pieces you play, and provides a great technique for use of diminished scales in I,IV changes. Practicing and applying these techniques will only make you a better player and will add more color to the songs you play. It is for advanced guitarists in my opinion, and you definately need knowledge of jazz chord voicings and fluency in scales in order to go to the next level which he presents here. This is a definate purchase for guitarists that want advanced instructions and approach to blues and jazz.
