A unicorn is like Dorothy Stratten: Beautiful, mystical, loved by so many.

As someone who's been intruigued by the very short life of Dorothy Stratten, this book was my final puzzle piece to finishing her life story. Written by the only man who ever showed Stratten the truely good side of life, Peter Bogdanovich gives the reader access like no other could. He began a torrid affair with Stratten during the filming of the 1980 movie They All Laughed, starring Audrey Hepburn, Ben Gazerra, and a young John Ritter. Stratten's role in the film was written specifically for her. While his affair with Dorothy was short, you can tell by the content PB saw the love of his life buried that terrible August day in 1980, and he still hasn't gotten over her in 2011. It's the perfect title to the story about quite possibly the most perfect women ever to walk the earth. It's the story of a real life princess, who unfortunately doesn't have the fairy tale happy ending. PB's take on Dorothy's time in Los Angeles is quite the opposite as seen in the film Star 80. Much of the content in the book deals with PB's take on Dorothy's time at the Playboy Mansion, and her dealings with Hugh Hefner, who had been courting her as well. The book is obviously dated (1984) and gives the reader insight on the exclusive Hollywood lifestyle at the turn of the decade, the one ending bell bottoms and disco music for the 1980's. While certainly opinionated throughout, this book is a MUST READ for any fan of Dorothy Stratten, quite possibly the sexiest, most innocent, and pure woman to ever grace the pages of Playboy magazine.

White Water Summer, Old School 1980's Cinema....

This was a great film, and has still managed to hold onto a place in my heart after all these years. Several familiar faces from film even today in this one. Lord of the Rings and the more popular The Goonies' own Sean Astin, and of course Kevin Bacon. White Water Summer is one of those rare films you will stop the channel on, everytime you come across it on tv. Great story, good acting, decent soundtrack, and anyone who has spent time in the outdoors in their youth will probably relate to many of the scenarios in this film. Once I finally saw this one was released to dvd, I had to have it. Widescreen and cleaned up, White Water Summer is a MUST for fans of Kevin Bacon, Sean Astin or some of the better 1980's cinema.

Star 80 (DVD)

I really enjoyed this older film about many true events regarding the life and death of Playboy Playmate of the Year, Dorothy Stratten. It was a very sad tale about a small town girl consumed by Hollywood and the darker side of "fame." It was a tragic tale, played extremely well by the actors, with a very young Eric Roberts stealing the screen whenever possible. I knew of this film long before I knew the details surrounding the main subject Dorothy Stratten. I only wish I had given this film a watch long ago. This proved to be a difficult find for me through retail outlets, and was easily found on ebay. I even secured a brand new dvd copy for my collection. Like others have stated many times before, if you are looking for an older film, in any format, check ebay first! The site has YET to deny me from finding a rare movie! :-)
