    Drive Angry DVD

    Worth watching
Interesting plot, technically well done and very good acting.

    Easy and feature-rich
This was set up in 15 to 20 minutes and I was using the features in a few minutes. I barely needed to look at the manual for basic usage. However you will definitely need the book to find out how to do most things. The machine is very quiet, the editing features seem straightforward but I have not yet discovered a simple way to transfer parts of programs from HDD to internal DVD recorder. The complex usage of edited playlists seems to me a bit cumbersome, but to be fair I have not read the manual in enough detail to see if there are shortcuts. Right now I am seriously considering just attaching another DVD recorder to the outputs and burning disks that way, pausing for the unwanted parts and FF on the Pioneer. I think that is faster than making a lot of complicated playlists for each job. The recordings on the hard disk are excellent at the XP speed and the picture on the S-video output to my cheap 5-year-old analog Philips TV is so good it makes me regret that I plan to replace the TV. It has never looked this good. Scanning and tuning for stations was automatic and accurate for analog broadcast. The unit does not tune digital stations. It passes closed captions through to the TV and even records them so that they will show up on playback if desired. But it does not decode the CC signal, so if your PBS station piggybacks the time signal to the CC feed, you are out of luck for automatic time setting. To be fair, every other good brand of recorder I know about likewise ignores time signals embedded in the closed captioning. Check with your PBS station or cable company to see how the time signal comes to you if it is an important feature. The remote main buttons are big and easy to use. The small buttons are under a sliding door for the editing and some other functions. I find this a little annoying only because one of the buttons under the door is a button I need a lot. The enter/OK button is in the center of the cursor buttons which tightly surround it in a circle. This is useful for most functions but the problem is that I often end up accidentally cancelling out of what I am doing because the bottom curser button is the cancel button for some common functions. You need to be very careful when pushing enter that your finger does not even lightly touch the curser button directly underneath. The Manual is extensive and easy to read and understand for most things I have looked up so far. If you have a lot of pictures on a CD and need to copy these and/or view them in a slide show, expect a very long wait for the pictures to load. If you copy them to HDD, it loads them first and then copies them so you need to wait twice. I have this feature on numerous other machines and the Pioneer is about one-tenth as fast as they are. If you record a TV show, most of them are identified by the show's title on the HDD directory instead just the time, channel & date. I am not sure if this happens with all cable signals but it works with mine (Time Warner). I find it very useful. I have not tested the DVD recorder except to erase a DVD-RAM disk which seemed a bit slow to me. I bought this to make DVD's from my extensive VHS collection using the inputs from a VCR & copying them to HDD. You can copy from the HDD to DVD in high-speed. A good feature is that you can load 10 or more full tapes at once & edit or combine titles & still use high-speed dubbing. Overall I am very happy with this unit so far.

Hard to believe this is a real case
Generally excellent movie with plot line that would never be believed except it really happened. A bit mystical, very suspenseful with characters you care about. A good mystery.
