Bill Evans Trio live at the Villiage Vanguard 1961
Classic, haunting, a must listen for all those who appreciate the fact that the trio would be no more with the death of the bass player, Scot Lafaro a couple weeks later. Evans was distraught and could not play for quite a while after this incident.
The last recording of a bygone era juxtaposed in an indifferent and small crowd on a Sunday in New York reminds us of the ghostly transient nature of American jazz culture at it height with all its nostalgia cloaked within those mean steets.
