Death Kit (Penguin Modern Classics) by Sontag, Susan Paperback Book The Fast

Memories of an Interesting Sontag Experiment
This is an interesting, experimental novel that is trying to deal with passing moments of consciousness and signalling them with the repeated word "now," which, for most readers, gets in the way of a story, which, in itself, while it involves a gratuitous murder a la Gide's Lafcadio's Adventures (Caves of the Vatican), is nowhere near as interesting as I found Gide's attempt to deal with the same topic when I read it at 17 or 18. In general, Sontag's fiction has not done well by reviewers, but I have a soft spot for her short stories, and I’m a completist by nature, so I decided to replace a lost copy with this one: and this does it. Gore Vidal wrote a very good review of what was wrong with the book when it first came out, and I still think, for the general reader, his argument holds up, but the truth is I’ve never considered myself a general reader.
