AMAZING phone but text tone and ring tones are a joke
2 of 2 found this helpful For the "dumb" phone users out there that just adamently will NOT turn to the dark side -- otherwise known as purchasing a "smart" phone, this is the phone for you. This thing packs a whollop. I have never encountered a dumb phone (I'll start calling it "feature phone" from now on, since that's the technical term for this type of non-querty-key-board phone) that does so much. The most important thing for me was speaker phone, and this one seems pretty good in that regard. The buttons are easy to rapidly press as I fire off texts, even with my long nails. Yes it looks like crap (my boyfriend saw it as I pulled it out of the box and his first words were, "I hope you didn't pay a lot for that hunk of junk") but that's because the one I got was a little beat up (even though it promised to be in "excellent" condition). But don't judge a book by it's cover, as it works perfectly, has long battery life, and so far has had no glitches.
CONS: The little "jingle" that dings in when a text arrives SUCKS bigtime. You can not change this jingle. And it sounds like the end of a Vagisil commercial. It's very grandma and dorky. Okay, this is a man's phone, a masculine phone -- made for military dudes to drop in the water and have it still work, looks like a walkie talkie -- and I'm letting off a douching commercial everytime someone texts me? Is this a cruel joke that samsung is trying to play on all the army guys buying this phone???? If someone knows how to change this jingle to something else PLEASE TELL ME as my cool factor and street cred plummets lower and lower every time I get a text in public!
Another con: The ringtones are so bad, but so bad, oh my gosh, not even one is acceptable. Not-a-one. So I tried to "download" new ones via the phone. Not possible. Hunh?? HELP! If anyone knows how to get acceptable ring tones to this phone please tell me! For those of you in my same boat, who are not okay with "AT&T Stargazer" or "At&T Firefly" , here is a semi-solution: hold the phone up to your stereo when it's playing a song you like, and record it on your phone as an audio clip. Then you can set that as a ring tone. Yeah, it sounds like crap, but at least it retains the cool factor.
In short, this phone is an overall win. It is a huge step up from my last phone which was an Alcatel Go Phone. Now that thing sucked...
